Re-purposing this blog

 So, I've been on this Eco kick recently and I'm pretty sure our next place of residence will be decorated accordingly. I will call it "Re-Contemporary": basically as much re-used/ re-cycled/ re-purposed as possible with nice, clean lines and a subtle sophistication. I'm pretty stoked about it, really. This (very) unused blog is being hijacked as a notebook for my developing ideas and observations on "green" decorating.

I'm going to start playing with some recycled magazine projects this week. I have several art magazines that were given to me to me after my Grandmother passed away; I'm pretty sure she'd be happy to see them re-purposed into something useful (they've just been sitting in a box for several years now). 

I'll be making baskets 

A bowl (maybe for keys and such? If it's strong enough maybe as a fruit bowl?)

And these coasters ( I feel like this will be the most successful project.)

Mr. Lee is not so excited about the "Re(cycled)" part of my decorating plans, but I'm on a mission and he will see just how awesome my Re-Contemporary style can be!

Revision

So much for the daily/ weekly postings. Ha.


Revision literally means to "see again," to look at something from a fresh, critical perspective. It is an ongoing process of reconsidering, reviewing, refining, reorganizing, and reviving. With that in mind I'm going to make revisions to my plans.

We moved into the new apartment easily enough but getting internet took almost 3 weeks (long story short: I will never recommend AT&T to anyone). So really, it's not my fault that I wasn't sticking to my goals, well, maybe it was... but only a little bit.

I haven't been working out daily like I planned, but I have started going outside for walks when I get the urge. It's been 1-2 times a week and round-trip about 1.5mi; at least I'm doing a little cardio. We were doing really horribly on the eating healthy idea for the week before and the week after the move: fast food almost every night , pizzas, lots of soda, candy, you get the idea. I'm down to about one soda a day, usually with dinner when Drew is grabbing the drinks and I can't decide what I want. And I know, I know, I know how environmentally douche-bag-y it is to buy plastic bottles but it's the only way I've been able to encourage myself to drink more water. Not having to deal with using a filter and  getting a class or a lidded cup for the car seems to make a big difference to me; bottles make water more accessible.


I haven't even looked at anything for school since my last update... no bueno.


My Art! Yes, I have been working towards the goals I had set for my art. I feel like I'm both behind in the race and ahead of the game. I will be missing my deadline of March 6th and I don't have nearly as many pieces in progress as I had intended to at this point, but I feel good about my pace. Drew and I went out to several thrift stores last weekend and picked up a couple nice pieces that are waiting their turn to ride the revision wagon (wow, that was corny, haha). I called the paint company and got some tips on waterproofing my work so I can move into items that can be used as dish ware/ soap pumps/ Vases. Everything I've been reading about haveing a successful shop on Etsy recommends having a blog exclusively for your shop to showcase your work and creative process; I made a blog for my shop today and will be using it to post pictures of my process and inspirations.

This post is way longer than intended, but then again so was my hiatus.

Motivation

Seems like a popular method of motivation these days is public accountability; I figure I'll put my spoon in the pot too.



My Art.
March 6th. I plan to have at least a handful of art listed for sale on my Etsy page here. I need to look around for an alternate way to accept credit cards as PayPal is no longer an option I would like to use. My plan is to (hopefully) sell two to three pieces within a month and then I will maybe do some more research into buying wholesale glasses, dish ware, soap dispensers, etc. so I create more functional art. I also want to look into the different sealing methods to make any dish ware at minimum hand-washable.
I will post an update on this goal at least weekly.


Totally non-business related:

I am also trying to change my daily-unemployed-bored schedule to include at least 30mins of exercise.
I am contemplating giving up soda.
We move in about a month and I need to pack and clean.
I will probably have the hardest time staying motivated to do these so I plan to post on these goals daily.


Planning on going back to school, just for an AA to start but I'm sure I'll end up going farther than that. I want to explore my interests and options once again. First there's all the hassle of figuring out financial aid again; eww.
